International Students must ensure they fulfil the following essential criteria to apply as an International Student.
The International Admission Portal is only for all international applicants (foreign nationals), including OCI card holders and NRI, and Indian nationals applying for international dual degree programmes offered by TISS.
Nationality
By 'International', we mean - Any person who is not an Indian Citizen or a Permanent Resident of India. Similarly, all Foreign Nationals, Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) Cardholders, and Non-Resident of India (NRI) are considered International students.
We do not consider NRI-sponsored students or Indian students who have completed any previous Degree/ Diploma abroad if they have returned to India or hold an Indian passport under the category of International students. Such applicants have to apply through the Indian Admission Channel.
Please note that students applying through the NRI/OCI category must ensure they fulfil the following Govt. of India criteria to be eligible to apply.
(A) Definition of Non-Resident Indian – NRI
As per section 6 in Income-Tax Act 1961 [43 Of 1961] [as Amended by Finance Act, 2022], Determining whether resident or non-resident
(1) An individual is said to be resident in India in any previous year, if he—
(a) is in India in that year for a period or periods amounting in all to one hundred and eighty-two days or more ; or
(c) having within the four years preceding that year been in India for a period or periods amounting in all to three hundred and sixty-five days or more, is in India for a period or periods amounting in all to sixty days or more in that year.

All NRI applicants must obtain an NRI certificate from the Indian embassy/consulate. The NRI certificate's issue date must be within the current or upcoming Indian financial year.
(B) Definition of Overseas Citizen of India – OCI:
As per section 7A of The Citizenship Act, 1955 (57 of 1955), following categories of foreign nationals are eligible for registration as Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Cardholder:
A foreign national, - (i) who was a citizen of India at the time of, or at any time after 26th January, 1950; or (ii) who was eligible to become a citizen of India on 26th January, 1950; or (iii) who belonged to a territory that became part of India after 15th August, 1947; or (iv) who is a child or a grandchild or a great grandchild of such a citizen; or (v) who is a minor child of such persons mentioned above; or (vi) who is a minor child and whose both parents are citizens of India or one of the parents is a citizen of India - is eligible for registration as OCI cardholder. Besides, spouse of foreign origin of a citizen of India or spouse of foreign origin of an Overseas Citizen of India Cardholder and whose marriage has been registered and subsisted for a continuous period of not less than two years immediately preceding the presentation of the application is also eligible for registration as OCI cardholder. However, no person, who or either of whose parents or grandparents or great grandparents is or had been a citizen of Pakistan, Bangladesh or such other country as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, specify, shall be eligible for registration as an Overseas Citizen of India Cardholder.

International Dual Degree Programmes
Indian nationals and Foreign Nationals applying for International Dual Degree Programmes offered by TISS must apply through the International Admission Portal. The International Dual Degree Programmes specific eligibility can refer to this link.
(II) Programme-Specific Eligibility and Other Requirements:
Please note the International Admission Process is very different from the Indian Admission process.
International students are allowed to apply for Max. 02 programmes – Across Schools/ TISS Campuses at the time of the application.

It is mandatory to fulfil the basic eligibility requirements related to the interested/ applied programme(s) to be eligible to apply, as incomplete applications or applications that do not meet the required background will be disqualified from the application process.
Kindly note, apart from the basic programme-specific eligibility requirements – International students also have to fulfil the following (additional) requirements for the International admission process i.e.,
